Treatments » General & Preventive

The two major causes of tooth loss are gum disease and tooth decay. Both of these are caused by a build - up of plaque: a sticky bacterial film that covers the teeth. The hygienist is professionally qualified to:

  • Help control plaque levels by regularly removing any deposits and polishing the teeth to make them smooth, shiny and plaque-free;
  • Educate the patient in their individual oral hygiene regimes. In most cases this means brushing and flossing between the teeth. There are many gadgets now available to help make this task easier;
  • Carry out preventative measures such as fissure sealing or fluoride treatments.

As people keep their teeth for longer the emphasis in Dentistry is changing from treatment to prevention and Hygienists are one of the most important personnel in delivering this change. Use them to increase your awareness on how to prevent dental disease and keep your breath fresh!

Marnie is there to help, guide and advise you.
